He was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the son of Harold L. and Mary (Montgomery) Puffer. Rob grew up in East Conneaut and attended Rowe High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He graduated in 1944 and that same year was selected as First Team All-Ohio for Basketball.

He was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church.

Sports were a huge part of Rob’s entire life. For more than two decades, he played amateur baseball in the highly competitive Glenwood League of Erie County, Pennsylvania. He also helped the area’s youth by building a baseball field and organizing a traveling team that played teams in Cleveland’s Hot Stove League during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He shared his love of baseball with his family, visiting many major league stadiums around the country. In 2007, he was honored by being inducted into the Ashtabula County Basketball Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Puffer of North Kingsville; his son, Brett Stephen Puffer, and his wife, Jennifer (Capuano), and their son, Robert Joseph of North Kingsville; his daughter, Roberta Blaseos, and her husband, John, and son, Christophilis of Chicago, Ill.; and his brother, Gerald Puffer of Conneaut.
