GASTONIA - Arthur Philip Psomadakis, 85, passed away Dec. 7, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Covington, Va., son of the late, Philip S. and Esther K. Psomadakis.
Mr. Psomadakis was a member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia. He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran for four years. Arthur was a graduate of Hematite High School, Hematite, Va., a graduate of Applachian State Teachers College and taught in various public schools in Maryland, Virginia and North Caro-lina. Most of his teaching career was in the Gaston County School System. He played one year of minor league baseball with the Chatham Blanketeers.
A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Ronda, N.C.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Gastonia, officiated by Dr. Ray Ammons.
The family will receive friends 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at the church.
He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Bettye Dimmette Psomadakis; son, Matthew D. Psomadakis of Gastonia; brother, S. Philip Psomadakis and his wife, Rita of Arlington, TX; grandsons, Brandon Psomadakis and his fiancee, Courtney Chavis of Gastonia, Michael Psomadakis and his wife, Kristen of Bessemer City; granddaughter, Amanda Psomadakis of Colorado; daughter in-law, Susan Psomadakis, her son, Todd Irby and his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his son, Philip Grady Psomadakis.
