Edsel Howard Privette,
85, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. He
was born in Franklin County on November 24, 1926 to the late Walter Ivan
Privette and Nettie Pearce Privette.
Edsel served his country in the US Army and retired from the NC Department
of Agriculture as a Standards Keeper. He was a member of White Stone Masonic
Lodge #155, Wake County Shrine Club and Amran Shrine Temple.
Edsel was a renaissance man, he had expertise covering a significant number
of subject areas including hunting, fishing, gardening and sports. He
played professional baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Edsel was a devoted
husband, family man and a friend to many.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Montlawn Memorial
Park Mausoleum Chapel, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 with
The Rev. Jay C. James.
The family will receive relatives and friends after the service from 11:30
to 12:30 pm in the mausoleum chapel. Entombment will take place immediately
following the service.
Surviving: wife of 53 years, Peggy Lou Gargis Privette; sister, Rose P.
Bunch of Raleigh; a host of godchildren, which include his special nieces
In addition to his parents, Edsel was preceded in death by his brothers;
Denimal F. Privette, Dillard Privette, Thomas Vaden Privette, Walter Kearney
Privette, sisters; Rona Belle P. Gay, Helen P. Dean, Alice P. Edwards
and Alease P. Barwick.
