Frank J. Powaski Sr.,"Coach", age 93 of Spotswood passed away Sunday, November 18th 2012 at Foothill Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hillsborough. Born in Greensburg, PA. He had resided in Spotswood since 1962.

Before his retirement in 1991 he was employed as a supervisor for Heide Candy Company in North Brunswick for 50 years.

Mr. Powaski was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WWII, he played 3rd base for the Montreal Royals (Brooklyn Dodgers), where he played alongside Jackie Robinson, Duke Snyder and Gil Hodges and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception RC Church in Spotswood.

He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Louise Szewczyk and by his wife Genevieve. Surviving are his daughter Diane Tedesco of Hillsborough; his son Frank Jr. of Smyrna, GA; his grandchildren Jeffrey, Kimberly and Tracy; his great-grandchildren Hunter, Genevieve and Declan; his brother Joseph Sefcheck and his sister Sophie Pasiak, both of Oriskany Falls, NY.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:30am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave, South River with at 10:15am Mass at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Spotswood.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
