Robert Edward Philo, 80, passed away Jan. 23, 2008, at Murrells Inlet,
S.C. Bob was born in Glens Falls, the son of the late Henrietta (Leary)
and Harry N. Philo. He attended St. Mary's Academy and graduated from
Glens Falls High School, where he was an outstanding athlete, playing
on Northern Conference Championship teams in baseball and basketball.
As a 14-year-old, he pitched for St. Mary's Academy defeating the Glens
Falls High School in a complete game victory. After transferring to the
Glens Falls High School, he pitched the Indians to a Northern Conference
Championship in 1944. That season, as a pitcher he started seven games,
completed seven games and pitched seven shutouts. He subsequently played
in the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Giants Farm systems. He also played
semi-professionally for the Glens Falls Doblers.
Bob was employed by the Imperial Wallpaper Corporation for more than 40
years, in Glens Falls, Albany, Syracuse, Cleveland and Philadelphia, retiring
as national sales manager.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Fay (Chilson) Philo, formerly of
Whitehall, N.Y. and his two sisters, Jean Marie Gale and Mildred Kathryn
Hilton, predeceased him. A son, Robert H. Philo (Amy), of Covington, Ga.,
a daughter, Cynthia Philo Esq., of Doylestown, Pa., along with three grandsons,
Robert, Andrew and Aaron Philo, survive him. Two brothers, Harry M. Philo
(Jean) of Queensbury, N.Y. and Thomas G. Philo (Jeanne) of Greenville,
R.I., also survive him, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, at St. Mary's
Church, Glens Falls, N.Y.
