“Bill”
Age 46, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2011.
Bill was a 1982 graduate of Brandywine High School. He attended Harford Community College until being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers MLB organization. He played for the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs minor league organizations. He continued his baseball career with a 20 year “stint” in the Wilmington Semi Pro League. While playing baseball and throughout his life, Bill developed a great number of lifelong relationships. He was voted MVP of the league. He played for Brandywine, Health South and for Gildea’s Raiders. As a member of Gildea’s Select Team, he made numerous trips to Florida and played teams from the Grapefruit League Circuit.
Bill was a devoted father and baseball coach for his children. He was an avid supporter of the Brandywine Little League. His two boys are accomplished baseball players and he will always be their biggest fan.
He is survived by his two sons, Billy and Matt; their mother, Michelle; his mother, Ethel Phillips; a sister, Sandy and her husband Gary; three brothers, Bruce and his wife Lynn, Paul and his wife Leslie and Mike and his wife Mary. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Church, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, where family and friends are invited to call after 10:30 am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
