Hugh James "Buzz"
Peeler, of Gastonia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012. Buzz was a graduate
of Lincolnton High School and Lenoir-Rhyne College. He was best known
for his pitching heroics in the summer of 1953, when he led Cherryville's
Post 100 baseball team to the Little World Series.
Buzz was a member of the NC Legion Baseball Hall of Fame, still holds
the record for most pitching wins in a single season, and was a much-beloved
teacher and coach.
He is survived by his mother, Sharlene Peeler, of Hickory; his sister,
Phyllis Little, of Taylorsville; and his sister, Michelle Peeler Rosenbalm,
of Hickory. His son Mike lives in Gastonia and his son Chris lives in
Atlanta with Buzz's grand-daughter, Sophie.
A ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at Reeps Grove United Methodist
Church in Vale, Sunday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m.
Friends and family will gather immediately following the ceremony in the
church fellowship hall.
