James Michael Peccia, 86, of Seaside, died Dec. 9, 2011, in Seaside.

He was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Portland, to Michael and Carmella (Moccia) Peccia.

Raised in Portland, he received his education at St. Anthony's Catholic Grade School, Commerce High School and the University of Portland.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Dora N. Bolin in Billings, Mont. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Peccia played baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and was a firefighter with the Portland Fire Bureau. He retired from Engine No. 25 in 1980. He moved to Seaside from Milwaukie in 1983.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

Family members said he enjoyed cooking, golfing, clamming, fishing, bowling, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Peccia and his wife, Cheri, of Milwaukie, and David Peccia and his wife, Dianne of Rhododendron; nine grandchildren, Laurie Morris and her husband, John, of Gearhart, Jennifer, Brittnay, Brian and Nick Peccia of Milwaukie, Joanie Merrihew and her husband, Tucker, of Lake Oswego, Morgan and Evan Peccia of Rhododendron and Lee Peccia of Tualatin; and eight great-grandchildren Megan, Madison and Justin Morris, Andrew and Ashley Clift and Alec, Alexus, and Brianna Peccia.

A private family graveside service will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
