Robert E. Passarella of West Scranton died Sunday at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after an illness.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Giralamo and Saveria Miele Passariello. A graduate of Scranton Central High School, class of 1945, he was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. Before retirement, he was employed by the Scranton School District as a custodian at West Scranton Intermediate School for a number of years.

Bob played professional baseball and also participated in many semipro leagues. He coached many local baseball players. He was a devoted brother and uncle. All who knew him will miss him. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and American Legion Post 920.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Manzo, Scranton; two brothers, Gene Passarella and wife, Louise, Scranton; and Leo Passarella and wife, Rita, Wichita Falls, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Philomena Mancuso, Catherine Doyle and Carole Passariello; and five brothers James, Phillip, Nicholas, Michael and Anthony.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Patrick F. Guido Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram St., Scranton. Interment with military honors will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
