The Obit For Joe Paniak

Joseph Paniak

Published in The Joplin Globe from 4/1/2009 - 4/3/2009

Joe was a wonderful and kind humanitarian. He was born in Carteret, N.J. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the Navy.

In his 20s, Joe had aspirations of being a professional baseball player. This is when he changed his last name from Czerpaniak to Paniak because it was too long to fit on his baseball jersey. He played semi pro ball until he blew out his shoulder and ended his career as a pitcher.

Joe was a small business owner for over 50 years in Joplin. He believed in doing business on a handshake and to him your word was as good as gold.

In 1961, he became a mom and dad to his five year old daughter, whom he raised single handedly. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Paniak, Joplin; and a grandson, Joseph Tanner Moore, Kansas City. No services are planned.
