He was born in Cleveland on September 3, 1925 and was raised in Pennsyl-vania. He had resided the last 42 years in Wadsworth. In 1942, he joined the Seebee's of the Navy and went to World War II. In 1948, he played semi-professional baseball and was recruited to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates but chose to marry the love of his life, Dolores. They have spent the last 58 years loving each other. After retiring from Ambassador Cards (Hallmark) he worked at Axelrod for 17 years and retired in 2005.
Preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Joseph Painter and granddaughter, Tiffany Dawn Painter, he is survived by children, Thomas (Joan), Ralph-Jay (Val), Bruce, Darla (Jeff) Jenkins, and Keith Painter; grandchildren, Pam, Stephanie (Steve) Bock, Kristel (Matt) Stone, Douglas Jenkins, Danny (Suzanne), and Billy and Todd Painter; and great-grandchildren, Jaden and Addison Stone and Abby Painter.
Dolores and Ralph shared the philosophy that it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. Ralph will be deeply missed by all. He has left behind a legacy of love, compassion, modesty, and true devotion to his family.
