LAKE SAN MARCOS -- Louis "Lou" Ortiz died peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2010. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1930, he relocated to San Diego with his parents and six siblings. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1941 where he met his wife, Lois Johnston, of 62 years. Lou was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army.

Lou was a star athlete in high school and went on to a career in professional baseball. In 2007, he was inducted into the Rochester Red Wings Hall of Fame, and was named Athlete of the Century by the San Diego High School Alumni Association. Lou was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish and was active in the Knights of Columbus.

Lou is preceded in death by his wife, Lois; four brothers, Ray, Vince, Sam and Tom; and his grandson, Toby.

He is survived by daughter, Lorraine; sons, Larry and Lonnie; granddaughter, Julianna; grandsons, Jason and Joshua; and great- grandson, Sydney; great-granddaughter, Nya.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 8, at 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in La Costa followed by inurnment at San Marcos Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice By The Sea.
