After a nearly two-year
battle with lung cancer, Mark Marvin Opatt, 71, passed away on Saturday,
September 1, 2012 with his family by his side.
Born in Eighty Four, PA on August 7, 1941, Mark was the son of Mark Opatt
and Jean Miller, both deceased. He was a star athlete at Trinity High
School in Washington, PA and was signed by the San Francisco Giants shortly
after graduation. Mark pitched for several seasons in the Giants minor
league system, including the Pocatello Chiefs, Eugene Emeralds and Artesia
Mark moved to central PA when he joined the National Guard 28th Aviation
Division based in Indiantown Gap. He served as a yardmaster for what is
now the Norfolk and Southern Railroad for over 30 years before retiring
in 2004. He and his wife moved to Lewes, DE in 2007.
Surviving Mark is his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann; his daughter Gabrielle
Sedor and her husband Michael; his son Christopher and his partner Carrie
Sallese; his granddaughter Kimberly Henry; his brothers Bill and Scott
and his sisters Bonnie Caumo and Mary Changco.
Mark is joining his sister Sandy Montgomery-Reeves and his granddaughters
Isobel and Jovita Sedor in peace.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 2 pm,
Saturday, September 8th.
