JOHN T. OBERG, 95 ROCKFORD
- John T. Oberg, 95, of Rockford died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, in Fairhaven
Christian Retirement Home.
Born Dec. 21, 1912, in Rockford, the son of Jacob and Mabel (Peterson)
Oberg. Married B. Cordelia Larson on March 14, 1953, in Rockford; she
died Jan. 14, 2003.
John played professional baseball as a catcher with many minor professional
baseball leagues. He was a volunteer for Big Brothers of Northern Illinois
and for SwedishAmerican Hospital. John was employed by Greenlee Brothers,
Woodward Governor and as a manufacturing representative. He was a member
of Bethesda Covenant Church.
Survived by his son from his first marriage, Hollis (Kathy) Oberg of Big
Bear Lake, Calif.; granddaughters, Jaclyn Trenery of Walnut Creek, Calif.,
and Kristin Oberg of Dallas.
Predeceased by sisters, Gertrude Fritzohn, Eleanor Minard, Evelyn Town
and Dorothy Dahlberg.
Service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement
Home, 3470 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.; Chaplain
Norm Collins and the Rev. David Lindfors will officiate.
Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
