P., 89, of Zephyrhills, passed away early the morning of Sunday, February
17, 2008, at his home, with his grandson, Joseph, at his bedside.
He was born March 14, 1918, in Detroit, Mich. After high school, he signed
as a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers farm team.
Just before being called up to the majors, he enlisted in the U.S. Army
Air Corps and served in the Pacific during World War II. While stationed
in Casper, Wyo., he met and married Mary DeVries February 10, 1946. They
moved back to Detroit, where they raised their family until moving to
Zephyrhills in 1996.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary. He is survived
by his three children, twin daughters, Marilyn and Carolyn, and son, James
Jr.; eight grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Joseph, Kristen, Kelly, Melanie,
James III and Brandon; and fivegreat grand-children, Carly, Megan, Connor,
Alec and Madelyn.
Graveside services with military honors will take place Tuesday, February
28, at Florida National Cemetery.
