(Denny) Age 77, of Hastings Died peacefully on August 20, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his former spouse Deanna Devine O'Melia, daughter Colleen (Joe) Kaufenberg, sons, John and Patrick, grandchildren Justin, Jeremy, and Mikayla.

Denny was born in Santa Barbara, CA, later moving to Wisconsin and graduating from St. Patrick's High School (Eau Claire) in 1951.

After serving in the military, he played professional baseball.

Denny left the baseball field to pursue his education, graduating from the University of WI Eau Claire and obtaining a master's degree.

Denny went on to enjoy a fulfilling teaching career in biology at Inver Hills Community College. He was proud of creating and implementing multimedia learning for students both in and outside the classroom and instructing many nursing students both at the college and Regions Hospital.

While teaching, he returned to the baseball field developing and implementing the program at Inver Hills and coaching there for years, playing for nearby teams in Exeland, WI, and pitching batting practice for the MN Twins.

Following retirement, Denny did not slow down. Cross country skiing, biking, and nature photography were a few of his passions. He trained and raced with dear friends in Hastings, searching the state for good snow conditions. He also made friendships over many states, hiking and photographing wild flowers and nature on Elderhostel trips.

As a father and grandfather, he was always there with an open ear, loving support, and academic guidance.

He will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever.
