William F. (Bill) Norton of Harvard died Sept. 4, 2009.

Bill was the number-one draft pick of the Red Sox in 1969 and he played Triple-A baseball for them from 1969 to 1972.

He was born and raised in Wakefield, son of the late William F. Norton and Mary A. (Musto) Norton. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1967 and was captain of the school’s baseball team.

Bill was devoted to his family, and enjoyed cooking and welcoming friends to his table. He was the beloved husband of Joan Rice and devoted father of sons Emmet and Liam. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Norton, his wife Chris, and their children Kristi and Ricky, all of Wakefield; an uncle, Richard Musto; and an aunt, Pauline Balsama.

The funeral was held at the Shawsheen Funeral Home in Bedford Thursday, Sept. 10, followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish of Harvard. Burial was in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Concord.
