JOSEPH CABRAL NICHOLAS
April 26, 1923 - January 28, 2008 Of San Leandro, CA passed away in Castro
Valley, CA on January 28, 2008 at the age of 84.
Born on April 26, 1923 to Mary Joaquina Nicholas and Alfred Cabral Nicholas,
he attended Hayward High where he developed a love for baseball.
In the 1940s and 50s he lived his dream as a professional pitcher. Most
notably, he captured a record in 1953 with 23 victories (against seven
losses) while with the Salem club of the Western International League.
During WWII he served in the Army Air Corps. Following his baseball career,
Joe resettled his family in Hayward (and later Castro Valley) and worked
for 30 years for Rhodes and Jamison.
Joe was married to Catherine Cooper Nicholas, his beloved wife of 40 years
who preceded him in death in 1983. He is survived by his son Joseph D.
Nicholas and daughter-in-law Peggy of Carnelian Bay, CA.
Joe was loved by many and will be deeply missed. All who touched his life
will cherish his memory.
Internment services will be held at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward on Friday,
February 1st at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions
