Harold Nerino, 88, of Bethlehem Township, passed away Thursday, September
11, 2008 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg.
Born: He was born October 8, 1919 in Bangor, a son of the late Anthony
and Concetta Filigno Nerino Personal: Harold was preceded in death by
his wife, the former Beatrice M. Maragulia in 2007.
He was employed as a steamfitter for Steamfitters Union Local 420. Harold
was a graduate of Bangor High School class of 1938. He served in the Army
during World War II, European-African Theatre.
Harold played baseball and football for Bangor High School in the mid
to late 1930's and baseball with the Sunbury Indians in the late 1930's
-early 40's. He also played with the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League
team in Pittsburgh during the early 1940's.
Harold was a welter weight fighter for the Roseto Boxing Club in 1937.
He was later inducted into the Bangor Hall of Fame.
Memberships: Harold was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church
Survivors: Harold is survived by daughters Carolee and husband Salvatore
Sportelli of Forks Township, Joan Everett of Wilson Borough; sisters Eleanor
Becker of Forks Township, Rose Bonano of Palmer Township; and grandchildren
Ryan Romeo and Sydney and Chad Sportelli. Sisters Mary Capabianco, Lena
Basso, Alvera Mignone, Carmel Gallo, Ernesta Gianjobi, Antoinette DeGaeto
and brothers Alfred, Ralph, Perino and Edward Nerino preceded Harold in
Services: Funeral Services were held yesterday. Arrangements were under
the direction of the Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas St. Palmer
