James D. “Jim” Morton, 98, of Hixson, died on Friday, April 23, 2010, in a local health care facility.

He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1930, was an Eagle Scout and was owner/operator of Air Way Vacuum on Hixson Pike. Mr. Morton was a member of Red Bank Church of Christ.

He was an avid golfer and was recognized by Guinness World Records, Chattanooga Old Timers Hall of Fame and played minor league baseball for St. Louis Browns.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ella Morton; and son, Terry Dee Morton.

Survivors include his daughter, Janis Fulton; sister, Mildred Arnold; grandchildren, Jill (Sam) Lockmiller and April (Michael) Johnston; great-grandchildren, Jake, Kari, Kelley, Joey, Anna and Addison; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, at Lane Funeral Home with Minister Steve Lusk officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 26, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Red Bank Church of Christ Mission Fund.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.
