Sad news from the Red Sox organization. Ben Mondor, the long-time owner of the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox, has passed away at the age of 85.

Mr. Mondor was a pillar in the minor league community and within Rhode Island. He purchased the bankrupt franchise in 1977 and ran it in a first-class manner, turning it into a jewel that other teams emulated.

Mr. Mondor was a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame and the International League Hall of Fame.

The PawSox said Mr. Mondor passed away at his home peacefully last night. “He was an incredible and charitable man who was first and foremost devoted to his wife Madeleine, along with his PawSox family and the entire community at large," the team release said.

Funeral arrangements and further details will be announced later today.
