George Mitro, of Feasterville, passed away peacefully, with his family, on Dec. 4, 2008. He was 87.
George was a World War II Army Veteran and a retired Neshaminy School District teacher. He served as athletic director and coach of the middle schools, also serving as director of recreation for Lower Southampton Township. He was an avid umpire for local baseball games throughout his career and well into his retirement.
George spent 5 years playing for the White Sox minor league teams and was a scout for the Cleveland Indians.
The beloved husband of Dorothy (Kovach) he is also survived by a daughter, Denise Mitro-Gough and a son, David Mitro, along with his wife, Lynne; grandchildren Gregory and David; and a sister, Katherine Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, and again on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow at noon at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Southampton. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
