B. Mincher, 86, of Harris Road passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013
at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, with his loving family by his side after
a brief illness.
He was born on February 19, 1926 in Binghamton, NY and was the son of
the late Jay B. and Ida Bixen Mincher. Jim was a WWII Army-Air Corps veteran.
Jim was a graduate of Waterford High School. He worked as a brakeman for
the Boston & Maine Railroad in Mechanicville, until retiring in 1988.
Jim was a 70-year plus member of the Halfmoon Volunteer Fire Department
and also served as its treasurer for 50 plus years. James was a member
and past commander of the Halfmoon American Legion Post #1450. He is a
retired member of the Blue Spruce Hunting Club.
In 1949 to 1950 he was in the minor league system of the St. Louis Cardinals
in Frankfort, Illinois and Hamilton Ontario, Canada.
Family was very important to him; he surrounded himself with his children
and grandchildren and was always there for them. He truly enjoyed his
trips to the ocean in Maine and clamming in Cape Cod. He was an avid hunter
Jim was the devoted husband of the late Shirley Johnson Mincher, who died
in 1958 and Kathleen C. Walsh Mincher, who died in 2002.
He was the loving father of Gary J. Mincher and his wife, Amy of Rhinebeck,
NY, Gregory J. Mincher and his wife, Sandra of Halfmoon, NY, David. F.
Mincher and his wife, Lenore of Long Island, and Dianne M. Mincher of
Halfmoon, NY. He was the beloved brother of the late Norma M. Phillips.
He was the proud grandfather of Kristine (Scott) Pregont, Brian Mincher,
Erica (Edward) Foli, Melissa and Megan Mincher; and great-grandfather
of Hannah Pregont.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Gordon C.
Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call on Wednesday
from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in James' name to
the Halfmoon American Legion Post #1450 Sunshine Fund, 275 Grooms Road,
Clifton Park, NY 12065 or to the Halfmoon Fire Department, 315 Middletown
Rd., Waterford, NY 12188.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Gordon C. Emerick Funeral
Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
