He came from a strong religious heritage and often said that he should have been a preacher. He married Mary Elizabeth Love on April 3, 1937.

Survivors include two daughters, Sara Margaret and Herman Barnett of Texarkana and Charlotte Mills Fant of Conway; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Greg, Leigh and Bentleigh Barnett of Dallas and Lori, Craig, Luke and Grady Mueller of Texarkana; plus a host of special nieces, nephews and friends.

He played minor league baseball for the Osceola Indians, a farm team of the St. Louis Browns, and for the St. Louis Browns organization prior to a career-ending injury in the late 1930s. Grady was a member of the Arkansas First United Methodist Church and the Wadley Auxiliary. He was retired from Federal Compress and Warehouse Company Inc.

Grady was a "people" person who loved everyone. His greatest joys were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all their friends. Grady loved the outdoors and all of God's creation.
