William ("Bill"/"Moose") R. Milligan Jr., 82, died
November 4, 2012 at home of natural causes. He was the only child born
to William R. Milligan Sr. and Ruth Heckle Milligan and was raised in
Memphis. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1948.
After graduation, "Moose" was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles
and played minor league professional baseball until 1952. He married Marjorie
F. Park in 1950.
Bill spent his military career in the Air Force where he also played baseball.
His professional career in Memphis was spent in the construction industry
where he was an executive with Carrier Ready Mix and retired about ten
Moose was an avid semi pro baseball player in Memphis for many years and
later an accomplished masters handball player, playing in tournaments
throughout the region for many years. He was a member of the Christian
Brothers Hall of Fame and the Memphis Park Commission Hall of Fame.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie and his son Stephen J.
He is survived by his children; Michael P. Milligan of Hopkinsville KY,
Susan J. Ewing of Memphis, William C. Milligan of Memphis, Anne M. Milligan
of Louisville KY, Daniel L. Milligan of San Francisco CA & Mary M.
Horwitz of Memphis & Philadelphia PA.
He is survived by 9 grandchildren, including his most recent pride and
joy, Hannah, born to Mary & Ed Horwitz in June of this year; and he
is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.
will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6th at Canale Funeral Directors.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7th at St. Anne Catholic
Church on Highland with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
