– Walter Michael Merrigan, Jr., 75 of Claremont, NH died Sunday
(January 15) at Sullivan County Healthcare following a period of failing
“Michael” was born in Somerville, NJ on September 17, 1936
the son of Walter Michael, Sr. and Grace Frances (Jenkins) Merrigan. He
graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Coldwell, NJ after which
he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and spent four years in the minor
leagues before an injury ended his career.
After his release by the Dodgers, he joined the US Marine Corps and was
stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. Michael moved to Claremont in the 1960’s
and became a member of the American Legion Post #29, the Polish American
Citizen’s Club and the VFW, Oliver LaCasse Post 801.
He was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the John H. Cain Country
Club and the Claremont Country Club where he became club champion on the
1970’s. He enjoyed following all types of sports but his favorite
team was his beloved NY Yankees.
Members of his family include his longtime companion, Antoinette “Toni”
Perrotto, Claremont, NH, her daughters, Patricia Murphy and her husband,
Michael and their children, Jordan and Joshua, Paula Dumont and her husband,
Mark and their children, Catherine and Matthew, a brother, Charles Robert
Merrigan and his wife, Margaret and their children, Sarah, Susan and Bobby
from Nashua, NH.
In following his wishes there will be no visiting hours or funeral services.
