EAST FISHKILL - Joseph P. Mercurio, 87, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 5 years and formerly of New Rochelle, died on Monday, December 05, 2011 on his way to Daily Mass.

Born in New Rochelle on May 20, 1924, he was the son of August and Margaret Palmisano Mercurio. He proudly served our country in the US Air Force during World War II and was the owner and operator of Palmer Window in New Rochelle. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and formerly of Holy Family Parish in New Rochelle, and a member of St. Mary's Council #4065, Knights of Columbus, Fishkill, the Exchange Club of New Rochelle, the American Legion of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Democratic Committee. He was drafted into Minor League Baseball by the Pirates and was inducted into the New Rochelle Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed baseball and football, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

On July 24, 1950 at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle, Joseph married Ann Lesser who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Joanne and Ross Alan of Armonk, Claudia Riccardi of Allen, TX, Barbara and Thomas Warner of White Plains, Joseph and Suzanne Mercurio of Brewster, Margaret and Lou Valenti of Mahwah, NJ, Judy and Bernie Lombardi of Hopewell Junction, John and Kim Mercurio of Folsom, CA and Gail Leak of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Bradley and Whitney Alan, Courtney Alan, Matthew and Alyse Riccardi, Alyson Riccardi, Erin and Michael Sica, Lauren and Thomas Amededo, Vincent Warner, Katie, Joseph and Michael Mercurio, Sara and Michael Gideon, Juliana, Emma and Louis Valenti, Bernie, Kim and Chris Lombardi, Grace and John Thomas Mercurio, Blake and Abby, Tommy, Taylor, Hunter and Sophia Leak; and his great-grandchildren, Michael and Regina Sica, Jackson Amenedo. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Corbo.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
