David Paul Mendler,
70, Sarasota, formerly of St. Clair, Mich., was surrounded by family when
the Lord took him home on May 29, 2008 at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota.
He was born Sept. 4, 1937 in Detroit to Peter and Katherine Mendler. In
his youth David was a Triple A farmhand for the Detroit Tigers and an
all-state baseball player for Denby High School in the 1950s. He later
embraced golf as his sport of choice. He is a member of Heritage Oaks
Golf and Country Club, Elks Lodge #2495, and Eagles Aerie #2756; and Moose
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Patti of Sarasota; sister, Katherine
(Matthew) of Sterling Heights; and children, Debbie (Kenny) of Harper
Woods, Denise of St. Clair, Mark of Ottawa, Ohio, Michelle of Red Bud,
Ill., Kelley (Terry) of Waterloo Ill., Dave of Troy, Mich., Terry (Christine)
of Garden City, Mich. and Kathi (Brent) of St. Clair; grandchildren Brandon
(Tonya), Sean, Jason, Nick, Thomas, Andrew, Cami, Justin, Autumn, Jeffree,
Aleese, Chelsea, Tesia, Courtney, Harmony, Zachary, Jenna, Makela, Jared
and Ian; and great-granddaughter, Eva.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Peter; and sister, Betty.
Cremation has taken place. A gathering for family and friends is scheduled
at 2 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge #2495 at 5680 Rosin Way, Sarasota.
The family requests that donations be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church
in St. Clair, Mich., or TideWell Hospice in Sarasota.
