DAVENPORT — Richard
“Dick” Meier II, 60, of Davenport, Iowa, died unexpectedly
Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Trinity Rock Island, Ill. Memorial services
will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 10, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly
at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, with the Rev. Dr. Kerrin Kirkpatrick
officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral
home. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests memorials
be made to the family.
Dick was born in 1950 in Davenport, to Richard R. and Beverly J. Meier.
He married Kathleen R. Towle on January 29, 1971, in Davenport. A 1969
graduate of Davenport Central High School, he played Minor League baseball
for three years, and served with the Army National Guard.
Dick worked as a plumber and pipefitter with the Plumber & Pipefitters
Union Local #25. He worked with Ryan Mechanical for 10 years and most
recently, with K.J.W.W. Engineering, as a construction administrator.
He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, coaching Davenport Girls
Softball and Davenport East Pony League, as well as listening to music,
fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; daughter, Michelle (Matt) Cowell of
Waterloo, Iowa; son, Cory Meier of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Rachel,
Abby, Graden, and Liam; his mother, Bev Meier of Davenport; sisters, Chris
Janes of Davenport and Lisa (Steve) Shippey of Rock Island; brother, Mark
Meier of Iowa City; along with David (Karla Koch) Towle of Cedar Falls,
Marcia (Jerry) Ludden of Davenport, Doris Meier of Bettendorf, and Charles
(Pat) Towle of Benton, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father.
