William "Bill or Mac" McRae

Mr. William "Bill or Mac" McRae, age 63, of Fernandina Beach passed away on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 18, 2008 at Heartland Healthcare in Jacksonville.

A lifelong resident of Fernandina Beach, Mr. McRae had worked managing family owned commercial properties in Nassau County for many years. He had graduated from Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1962, and attended Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga.

An avid sports fan, he enjoyed football and baseball while in high school and while attending Georgia Southern he was picked up by the Kansas City Athletics, Minor League Baseball League where he played for a number of years. After the death of his parents, Mr. McRae stepped in and continued managing the family properties. He was a huge Florida Gator Fan and adopted many and loved all animals.

He leaves behind his wife, Debbie McRae, a son, Zack McRae, a special nephew, Ladd Gordon, of Yulee, and many friends and acquaintances.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Mr. McRae will be laid to rest at a later date.
