McLENDON Mr. Richard
Ray McLendon, 75, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Forsyth Medical
Center. He was born in Davidson County on March 6, 1933, to Nellie Britt
Lanier. Mr. McLendon was a member of Forsyth Park Baptist Church where
he was a deacon.
He played minor league baseball at Thomasville High Toms. He was an avid
gardener, fisherman and sports enthusiast. Mr. McLendon was preceded in
death by his mother; and a stepfather, Lloyd Lanier. He is survived by
his wife, Shirley Neal McLendon of the home; two daughters, Sherry McLendon
of Florida and Vickie Setzer and her husband, Darell, of the home; two
granddaughters, Michelle and Joy Setzer; and a cousin, Janet Myers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Hayworth-Miller
Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. John Krivsky and the Rev. Tom Southern
officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will
be available before the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17.
