MEBANE - Mr. George
L. McBane, 82, of Mebane, died at White Oak Manor on Monday, March 11,
2013 at 2 a.m., following one year of declining health.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Audrey K. McBane
for 57 years and the son of Dwight Leeman McBane and Ruth Avent McBane,
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired U.S. Marshal and an honorary
member of the Alamance County Sheriff's Department. In his youth, George
played Minor League baseball with the Cincinnati Reds Organization. He
was a member of Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon,
elder and in many other capacities and on committees within the church.
He was very active in the Republican Party.
Survivors include his sisters, Nancy McBane Buchanan of Greensboro, Shirley
McBane Holmes of Sunset Beach, Bobbie McBane Clark of West Palm Beach,
Fla. and Kaye McBane Madden and husband Chuck of Boones Mill, Va.; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a half brother, Hoyle McBane.
The funeral service will be conducted at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church
on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Matthew D. Randolph,
with the family receiving friends following the service in the church
fellowship hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will
be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
