Walter J. Mazur, age
89 of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday,
August 29, 2009.
He is survived by his son, John (Robin) Mazur of Griffith; and daughter,
Christy (Randy) Benesh of New Whiteland, IN; grandson, Nicholas Mazur
and two granddaughters: Lauren (Brett) Andrews and Mandy Benesh; two brothers:
Henry and Ed Mazur and brother-in- law, Walter Jakicic; numerous nieces
and nephews; and devoted caregivers: Liz and Maria.
Walter joins in Heaven his beloved wife of 63 years, Ida V. Mazur (nee
Terzarial); granddaughter, Shannon Winder; parents: John (Stella) Mazur;
sisters: Jenny Jakicic and Estell Wronka; sister-in-law, Dolores Mazur
and brother-in-law, Henry Wronka.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 4:30
p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville)
with Father Larry Kew officiating.
Burial will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, September 2,
2009 at Bocken Funeral Home, from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Walter was born and raised in South Chicago, he was a 1938 graduate of
Bowen High School.
He went on to play Minor League baseball on the West Palm Beach Indian's
a team under the Chicago White Sox organization for a short time before
returning to work at Youngstown/LTV Steel.
Walter has been a resident of the Hessville section of Hammond for many
years and was a faithful parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
He retired as a foreman of the #2 Tin Mill at Youngstown/LTV in 1980.
Walter was a kind and loving man devoted to his wife and family and will
be dearly missed.
