Robert W. Maxwell, 93, of Umatilla, FL, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 peacefully at home in Umatilla, FL. Born in Umatilla, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Maxwell attended Umatilla Elementary and High School and was in the first graduating class. He also attended Middle Georgia College before leaving to play minor league baseball. After that he was a teacher, citrus farmer and cattle rancher.

Mr. Maxwell was a Methodist and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Umatilla. He was involved in many other organizations including, Lions Club International-Life Member 1983, Past President of the Lake County Farm Bureau, Honorary Director of Florida Cattleman's Association, Outreach Sunday School Teacher at the Florida Elks Children's Hospital 1956-1992 and a Perpetual Member of the Grand Lodge of Florida, Free and Accepted Masons.

He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Maxwell; siblings, George Eldrige and Mary Edna Maxwell.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara M. Graham, Umatilla, FL; sister, Margaret Holman, Umatilla, FL; grandson, Robert Clark Stevens, Umatilla, FL; granddaughter, Lea Ann Buffenbarger, Umatilla, FL. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, Umatilla, FL. The interment will follow at Umatilla Cemetery Annex.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the Beyers Funeral Home Chapel, Umatilla, FL.
