Richard A. Mathias, 80, of Hopewell Township, a loving husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010, in Heritage Valley Sewickley.

Born June 15, 1930, in Sewickley, a son of the late George and Elsie Mathias, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was retired from J&L (LTV) and National Car Rental. He was a former member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He was a talented athlete and ball player. He played Minor League for the Muncie Reds, a division of the Cincinnati Reds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Susan, and a sister, Joyce Sessie.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jean Marr Mathias, at home; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Rochelle Mathias of CA, Kurt Mathias of Hopewell Township, and Kenneth and Holly Mathias of Ambridge; grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicole, Daniel and Scott, Kyle, and Zachary, and nieces, Janet and Valerie.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the MATTER-TATALOVICH FUNERAL HOME, 1133 Church St., Ambridge, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will gather at 11:50 a.m. at the cemetery to provide full military honors.
