Andrew J. Mathews

Mass for Andrew J. Mathews, 84, a native and lifelong resident of Bayonne, will be Monday at 9:45 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church, Bayonne.

He died at home yesterday.

Mathews was a mechanical engineer for Englehard Corp., Newark, when he retired and also had worked for Raybestos Manhattan Co., Passaic, for 20 years.

He played professional baseball for five years in the farm clubs of the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Mathews was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater.
