Robert C. “Coach” Mason, Sr., 75, of Dryden passed away Friday, September 4, 2009. He was born October 8, 1933 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI the son of Lyle and Esther (McCready) Mason. He married Barbara Lewis on March 7, 1953 in St. Ignace, MI.

Bob earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching from Western Michigan University, taught class and coached football, basketball, baseball, and golf at Dryden High School for 30 years and also served as an official until his retirement in 1995.

He had played minor league baseball for the Washington Senators and was inducted in the U.P. Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. He was also a member of the Imlay City Eagles.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; two sons, R.C. of Dryden and Craig (Betty) of Imlay City; two grandchildren, Joshua W. of New Mexico and Adrian N. of Oklahoma City; three brothers, William (Marlene) of Kenross, MI, Charles (Joann) of Sault Ste. Marie and Lawrence (Ampy) of McComb, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Daniel.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 from 3-8pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11am at Muir Brothers Funeral in Almont with Rev. Susan Rich of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Dryden officiating. Memorials may be made to the Dryden Boosters, 3866 Rochester Rd. Dryden, MI 48428.
