Kenneth F. Manarik of Grayslake for 50 years. Friends of Kenneth F. Manarik,
85, may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept., 4, at Symonds Lakes Funeral
Home & Crematory, 111 W. Belvidere Road, Grayslake, where funeral
services will be held at 7 p.m. The Rev. Fred Hill of Shepherd of the
Lakes Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment is private.
Born May 10, 1923, in Chicago, he passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at
his home, surrounded by his family. Ken graduated from the University
of Notre Dame.
He was a minor league baseball player for the Cleveland Indians, before
serving as a lieutenant in the Navy from 1943 to 1954. After leaving the
service, he received a master's degree in education from Northern Illinois
University.
He dedicated over 30 years to educating the children of Avon Centre School
as a math, science and gym teacher, and coach of basketball, softball
and soccer.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois (nee Forslund); children,
Laurie Manarik of Point Reyes, Calif., and Glen (Karen) Manarik of Crystal
Lake; grandchildren, Roger and Robin Manarik of Crystal Lake; brother,
Donald (Melvina) Manarik of Naples, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence Manarik. Donations
