William Lewis Malcolm, age 87 of Doraville, GA, died on September 17,
2008 at his home with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of
59 years, Mary Alice Maughon Malcolm; Son, James Alan Malcolm of Doraville,
GA; Daughter & Son-in-law, Mary Anne and Sherman Rogers of Mableton,
GA; Devoted Friend to Mr. & Mrs. Malcolm, Patricia Richardson of Atlanta,
GA; and Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and close Family Friends. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. L.A. Malcolm of Greenville,
GA and Mother & Father-in-law, G. C. and Alma Wages Maughon of Lawrenceville,
GA. He was the last surviving child of seven siblings.
Mr. Malcolm was born on October 30, 1920 in Meriwether Co., GA to L.A.
and Lucy Brown Malcolm of Greenville, GA. He graduated from Meriwether
High School where he was an outstanding Basketball and Baseball player.
He was drafted to play Baseball with the old Atlanta Crackers as a Catcher
but entered the United States Navy as a Signalman where he served his
country in the Atlantic & Pacific Theatres. He received various Foreign
Campaign Ribbons, as well as the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct
and Navy Occupation Service Medals.
He retired as General Manager of the former Northside Building Supply
Company after 33 years of service. He was a devoted member of the Northwoods
United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he taught Sunday School.
After his retirement from public life he used his talents and artistic
skills as a wood-craftsman.
The Service Celebrating the Life of Mr. Malcolm will be held Monday, September
22, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville
with The Rev. Don Harp and The Rev. Winston Worrell officiating. Interment
Shadowlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends on Monday before the service beginning
at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Contributions maybe made to the New
Hope Church, Building Fund 7719 Calloway Rd Greenville, GA 30222 in Memory
of Mr. William Lewis Malcolm.
