James Walter Mahoney
passed away on June 3, 2012, he was 91 years old.
Walter was born on July 5, 1920 in Waltham, MA. He was the youngest child
of Daniel and Margaret (Doherty) Mahoney.
Walter was happily married for 50 years to Marion (Nixon) Mahoney, who
passed away in April 2011.
A graduate of Saint Charles High School where he excelled in sports; he
was a veteran of WWII serving on the USS Princeton as a scouting squadron
in the air unit.
After leaving the US Navy Walter was a member of the Phillies AA farm
league baseball team.
Walter was employed by Brandeis University for almost 50 years. He started
as the baseball coach at Brandeis and also held positions in the buildings
and grounds department and special events coordinator.
After retiring from Brandeis, Walter & Marion retired to Cape Cod.
Surviving Walter are his daughter, Christine and her husband Peter Fraser
of Lowell, son Mark and his wife Elizabeth of Oakham, seven grandchildren
Nicholas, Adam & Julia Fraser, Owen, Riley, Kelan, Aidan Mahoney.
He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Daniel Mahoney, John
Mahoney, Mary Bryson, Sister Margaret Daniel, Sisters of Charity, Rose
Evelyn Cardinelli, Margaret Boudrot, Louise Mackay, and Ruth Mahoney.
Mr. Mahoney's Funeral Service took place on Thursday, June 7, 2012.
A private family burial took place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery
on Cape Cod.
