LEESBURG -- Charles "Buddy" Lowe, the only coach to lead Leesburg High School to a state championship in baseball, died this morning.
Lowe led the Yellow Jackets to seven state tournament appearances from 1963-85. Leesburg beat Tampa Catholic 3-0 in 1977 for the Class 3A state title.
Pat Thomas Stadium/Buddy Lowe Field, the Yellow Jackets' longtime home field, was recently renamed in Lowe's honor. A fixture at Leesburg games even after stepping down as coach, Lowe spent the past two seasons as part of the Internet broadcast team for Leesburg's Florida Collegiate Summer League team, the Leesburg Lightning.
