Ludwig Lew passed away on May 9 in Fort Myers, Fla. He will be buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Union, N.J., on Monday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m.

Mr. Lew grew up in Hillside, N.J., and also lived in Sea Bright, N.J. He was 88 years old. He retired from the Hillside, N.J., Fire Department, where he was a captain. Mr. Lew also was a U.S. Army veteran and fought in World War II. He played professional baseball starting at age 17 as a pitcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen, and his sister, Olga "Ochie" Wempa. Renee Weiss Lew, his wife of 30 years, passed away in 1991.

Mr. Lew also leaves behind three nieces, a nephew, and eight grand-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two stepsons, Dr. Bruce Brody and Stuart Brody, who grew up in Hillside, but now live in California, and three grandchildren.

His longtime girlfriend, Ruth Dumbaugh, lives in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
