John T. Legros
Jr. of Burke, Virginia passed away at his home on July 6, 2011 with his
family by his side.
Born August 25, 1925 in Mobile, Alabama, he was the oldest of three to
John Terrell Sr. and Annie (Friedhoff) LeGros.
In WWII, John was a gunner in the Army Air Corps where he flew the skies
While playing semi-pro baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers, he met and married
Virginia (Ginny) Lee Sowell. As his family grew, his batting average dropped
so he joined the FBI becoming a Special Agent and the all time batting
champion in the Industrial League. John and his brother, Tom, have been
inducted into the Hall of Fame at both McGill High School and the University
of Southern Mississippi.
John became an accomplished golfer where he had 4 hole-in-ones at Springfield
Golf and Country Club and one more while playing with his Dad in Mobile,
He loved gardening and working in his yard and loved to have family gatherings
He was preceded in death by one of his six children, Michael Turner LeGros.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ginny; their five children,
12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Terry (Judy), Tricia, Scott
(Grace), Ginger (Steve), Thomas/Buddy (Debbie); grandchildren, Michelle
(Jim), Chris, Jennifer (Dave), Shannon (Brian), Stephanie (Tommy), Vince
(Ashley), Marygrace, Pete, Lee, Sarah, Melissa and Jack; great-grandchildren,
Brodie, Danielle, Kyle, Hayley, Jayden and Gavin; brother, Tom (Martha);
sister, Dolores (Ed who is still in our prayers); numerous nieces, nephews
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, July 11 at Fairfax
Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia, with Pastor
Ed Ferlazzo conducting the service.
A viewing will be held at Noon, service at 1 p.m. Interment to follow.
Reception to follow at the LeGros' home.
