Allen Lawrence Resident
of San Lorenzo Born July 1921 in San Leandro, Ca to May and Philip Lawrence
(Valadao). Passed on April 16, 2009.
Al is survived by his sister Millicent Cavallo. He leaves daughters Rebecca
Lawrence of Reno and Bettye Carmichael and son-in-law Steve of Truckee
along with several nieces and nephews; he leaves his "adopted"
Niemoeller family.
Al grew up in the bay area graduating from Oakland Tech in 1938. He played
sandlot baseball, which led him to pursue a career in professional baseball.
That took him to Tucson and then to the southeastern league where he met
our mom, Agnes. They married in July 1942.
Soon after, Al enlisted in the AAC as a radio operator flying missions
all over the world. The war over, it was back to baseball, the game he
loved. Playing in the Texas league in the late 40's and 50's he led the
league every year in batting percentage. Dad retired from pro ball and
returned to the bay area but he didn't retire from the game. He played
semi pro ball in the Bushrod league. He played on various teams well into
his 40's.
After baseball it was golf. He had a sweet swing and two holes in one.
He was our hero. In the "game of life" he hit many home runs.
A quiet sweet man he was a great son, father, and husband. He lost the
love of his life, Agnes 4 years ago and life was never the same.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday April 23rd at 1:00
p.m. at Lone Tree Cemetery 24591 Fairview Ave. Hayward, Ca. Services will
be crypt side. A donation to the disabled veterans in Dad's name in lieu
of flowers please.
Dad we will miss you more than words can say. You and Mom gave us a great
life. We love you.
