John Francis Laraio, 76, of Norristown, a real estate company executive, died of pulmonary fibrosis Sunday at Mercy Suburban Hospital, East Norriton.

Mr. Laraio was vice president of the commercial industrial division of Continental Realty Co. in East Norriton. Before joining Continental in 1986, he was director of information systems for Unisys Corp. in Blue Bell.

Mr. Laraio graduated from Northeast Catholic High School, where he played basketball and baseball.

He also played baseball at Temple University on an athletic scholarship.

After graduating, he played in the minor leagues in Georgia for the Atlanta Crackers and Donalsonville Seminoles.

In 1959 he joined RCA as a systems analyst and in 1966 joined Sperry Rand, later Unisys.

While at those firms, he was a disc jockey and sports announcer for local radio stations and did sports interviews on WPHL-TV (Channel 17), his son John said.

For 20 years until the mid-1980s, he co-owned the Upper Merion Swim Club in King of Prussia.

Mr. Laraio, a talented photographer, enjoyed travel, especially to Florence, Italy. "He was a huge Phillies fan. Following the team kept him going during his illness," his son said.

Mr. Laraio is also survived by four grandchildren; his longtime companion, Yvonne Aiello; and his former wife, Joanne. Son Michael died in 1999.

A Memorial Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1260 S. Trooper Rd., Norristown, where friends may call after 9. Entombment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, East Norriton.
