Thomas 'Tom' O. Laidlaw
Thomas O. Laidlaw (Tom) passed away January 29, 2012, of age related causes. Tom was born August 16, 1921, in Browerville, Minnesota, to Thomas and Selma Laidlaw. He was married to Virginia M. Laidlaw until her death in 1975. A son, Douglas C. Laidlaw, died in 2006.
Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant during World War II. He was deployed with occupation forces in Japan. He was a baseball pitcher until age 32, playing 6 years in the minor leagues, in the Marines and semi-pro.
Tom lived in Bend since 1953. He worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation, Highway Division, for 30 years as a civil engineer. Tom was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman until well over age 80. These hobbies and his work introduced him to many long-time friends locally.
Tom is survived by his brother, Robert Laidlaw; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Trina Laidlaw; niece, Alyce Hewlett; nephews, Daniel Whitesell and Richard Whitesell.
