Luther James "Sam" LaBar Age 77, of New Castle, DE, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Sam worked at the Newark Chrysler Assembly Plant for 30 years retiring in 1994. He previously worked at Bethlehem Steel prior to moving to Delaware. After his retirement, Sam worked as a ranger at the Three Little Bakers Golf Course. In addition to golf he enjoyed fishing, hunting, visiting Delaware Park Race Track but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. As a youngster Luther played 3rd base for the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Baseball Team.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carole M. LaBar; 2 sons, Randy S. LaBar and wife Kathy, and Dale A. LaBar; daughter, Kimberlee A. Moran and Husband Bill; a brother, Justin LaBar and wife Sue; sister, Eleanor Reese and husband Gary; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer, Erica, Shawn, Kyle and Matthew; 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, Taylor, Ellie and Ezra.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 from 12:30-2 pm followed by a service in celebration of Luther's Life at 2 pm. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
