William E. Korte, 85, passed away Feb. 16, 2013, in Daytona Beach, FL. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fairfield Glade March 22 at 10 a.m. A second memorial Mass will be held at St. Lucy's Church in St. Clair Shores, MI, at a later date, with final burial at Mount Elliot cemetery in Detroit, MI.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline, and preceded in death by his wives Mary (Teats) and Carol (Bretz).
He was the loving father of William P. (Deborah), the late Gary (Jane), John (Pam), Tim (Annette) and Terry (Barbara). Bill is also survived by eight stepchildren and their spouses. He is the son of the late Leslie G. and Janet, brother of the late Richard (Helen, deceased), James (Maudie) and Susan (Charles, deceased) Mailloux. Bill was the grandfather of 32 and great-grandfather of 11.
Bill attended both the University of Detroit High School and College where his deep religious values served him well throughout his life. Bill played on the 1948 Ponca City Dodgers baseball team, the farm club of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bill gave up his dream of playing professional baseball to serve his country in the Navy.
Bill's distinguished 47-year career in the construction industry included retiring as president of Maurice V. Rogers Construction Company, president of the Detroit chapter of the AGC and president of the Detroit Golf Club. Upon retirement, he moved to Fairfield Glade, TN, and Daytona Beach, FL, to be near the game of golf he loved so much.
