Kenneth W. "Ken" Kirkes, of North Oak Street, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Landmark Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis McKinley officiating.

Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M.

Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth W. "Ken" Kirkes was born Feb. 3, 1942, in Carlsbad to E.A. and Syble (Williams) Kirkes. He graduated from Carlsbad High School.

Ken played minor league baseball until an arm injury changed his career path. He returned to Carlsbad and worked and retired from the potash mines.

His hobbies included golf, bowling, fishing, hunting and many outdoor activities. Ken was a member of the BPOE, #1558 and Landmark Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Melanie R. Williams and husband, Tommy, of Carlsbad; one son, Ryder W. Kirkes of Maryland; two granddaughters: Jodi Saltzman and husband, Eric, of Carlsbad and Chelsea Williams of Leander, Texas; mother, Syble Kirkes of Carlsbad; two sisters, Susan Smith of Euless, Texas and Sandra Bennett of Bedford, Texas; and numerous extended family members.
