Kirchhoff of Arlington Heights Visitation for Elmer L. "Kirk"
Kirchhoff will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Glueckert
Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south
of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, and from 10 a.m. until the time
of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Faith Lutheran
Church, 431 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.
Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Born on Dec. 10, 1921, in Mount Prospect, to William F. and Lillie (nee
Oldenburg) Kirchhoff, he passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, in Arlington
Heights. Mr. Kirchhoff was a dairy worker at Bornhoff Dairy for 25 years,
followed by 25 years at Lutheran Home and Services.
Elmer was a Navy veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was a lifelong
Chicago Cubs fan and played semi-pro baseball (Arlington Redwings), minor
league baseball, and for the Navy team while stationed in Norfolk, Va.
Mr. Kirchhoff was a member of the American Legion and Faith Lutheran Church
and its Men's Club.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Kirchhoff (nee Studtmann),
whom he married on May 7, 1949, in Mount Prospect; his children, Lynn
(Russell) Hodgden of Glendale, Ariz. and Russ (Lynn) Kirchhoff of Naperville,
Ill.; his grandchildren, Heather (Philip) Robarge, Jeffrey Hughes, and
Adam and Benjamin Kirchhoff; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Tyson
Robarge and Laura (Ryan) Drevlow; his great-great-grandchild, Gracelynn
Drevlow; his sisters, Leona Harth and Dorothy (Chuck) Ringstrand; and
his sister-in-law, Lillian Kirchhoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Florence (George)
Schaefer and Herbert Kirchhoff; and his brother-in-law, Robert Harth.
